Manchester City set to be without Richards for a month

Micah Richards will miss the opening month of Manchester City’s title defence as the player is suffering from an ankle injury.

The player, who was expected to be fit for Manchester City’s opening match against Premier League new boys Southampton, picked up the problem while on international duty with Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics and has not recovered as expected.

Speaking about the injury Mancini said

I think it will be three or four more weeks

Richards, who joined City in 2001 at the age of 13, made his first appearance for the senior team four years later against Arsenal.  Signing a new four year deal in 2011 with the club, the player has made 226 appearances for City and  found the net on ten occasions.

He was picked by Stuart Pearce as one of the three over-aged players to compete with the first ever Team GB football team at the Olympics.
