Premier League Injury Report Week 1

After the first round of matches, here are the details on any injuries which were picked up over the weekend and the state of play for players still out (you will find a graph representing types of injuries suffered so far at the end of the post):

Arsenal

Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta recovered sufficiently to start for Arsenal against Sunderland. No new injuries were picked up.

Current injuries: Laurent Koscielny (calf), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (ankle), Tomas Rosicky (calf), Bacary Sagna (broken leg), Emmanuel Frimpong (knee), Jack Wilshere (ankle/foot).

Aston Villa

Chris Herd made the bench for the game against West Ham after suffering a thigh muscle strain. No new injuries picked up during this match.

Current injuries: Nathan Delfouneso (hip/thigh), Samir Carruthers (ankle/foot), Richard Dunne (Gilmores goin), Marc Albrighton (metatarsal fracture), Gabby Agbonlahor (MCL knee ligament), Stiliyan Petrov (leukaemia).

Chelsea

Daniel Sturridge recovered from his toe injury to take his place on the Chelsea bench against Wigan. No new injuries picked up.

Current injuries: Ramires (illness), Marko Marin (hamstring).

Everton

Marouane Fellaini (groin) and Darren Gibson (hip/thigh) recovered enough to start against Manchester United. Nickica Jelavic suffered what seemed to be a hamstring strain during this game.

Current injuries: Sylvain Distin (knock), Nickica Jelavic (hamstring)

Fulham

Aaron Hughes recovered from his ankle/foot injury in time to play against Norwich. No new injuries picked up during this match.

Current injuries: Simon Davies (neck), Phil Senderos (ankle/foot), Kerim Frei (knock)/

Liverpool

Joe Cole recovered from his hamstring injury to make the bench against West Brom. Joe Cole suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem during this match only nine minutes after being introduced as a second half substitute..

Current injuries: Jose Enrique (knee), Joe Cole (hamstring).

Man City

Mario Balotelli’s conjunctivitis cleared up in time to allow him to take his place on the bench against Southampton. Sergio Aguero was stretchered off with a knee injury which he picked up in the 14th minute of the game.

Current injuries: Sergio Aguero (knee), Micah Richards (ankle/foot), Gareth Barry (inguinal hernia)

Man United

No previously injured players returned for their game against Everton. No new injuries picked up.

Current injuries: Rio Ferdinand (hamstring), Phil Jones (back), Chris Smalling (metatarsal fracture), Jonny Evans (ankle/foot), Darren Fletcher (bowel).

Newcastle

Hatem Ben Arfa (knee), Demba Ba (calf), Papiss Cisse (hamstring) and Cheick Tiote (calf) all recovered in time to start against Tottenham while Shola Ameobi (hamstring) made the bench.  No new injuries were suffered.

Current injuries: Shola Ameobi (hamstring), Fabricio Coloccini (thigh muscle strain) Sammy Ameobi (hamstring).

Norwich

Wesley Hoolahan recovered from his Achilles injury in time to take a place on the bench against Fulham. No new injuries during this match.

Current injuries: Elliott Ward (knock), Steven Whittaker (ankle/foot).

QPR

Jamie Mackie recovered from his calf muscle strain in order to start against Swansea. Armand Traore picked up an ankle/foot injury during this match.

Current injuries: Armand Traore (ankle/foot).

Reading

Jobi McAnuff recovered from his knock to start against Stoke while Shaun Cummings recovered from his illness and started on the bench. No new injuries picked up during this match.

Current injuries: Jimmy Kebe (hamstring).

Southampton

No new injuries picked up in their match against Manchester City.

Current injuries: Jack Cork (ankle/foot)

Stoke

Robert Huth overcame viral meningitis to start against Reading, Mark Willson also overcame illness to start while Cameron Jerome shook off a knock to take a place on the bench. No new injuries during this match.

Current injuries: Jermaine Pennant (thigh muscle strain).

Sunderland

Stephane Sessegnon recovered from his ankle/foot injury in time to start against Arsenal. No new injuries were received.

Current injuries: Wes Brown (knee), David Vaughan (inguinal hernia), Phil Bardsley (ankle).

Swansea

No new injuries picked up against QPR.

Current injuries: None.

Tottenham

No new injuries picked up against Newcastle.

Current injuries: Heurelho Gomes (ankle/foot), Scott Parker (Achilles tendinopathy), Giovanni Dos Santos (muscle injury).

West Brom

Liam Ridgewell recovered from his hip/thigh injury in time to start against Liverpool. No new injuries picked up in this match.

Current injuries: Jerome Thomas (knock).

West Ham

James Collins (groin) and Kevin Nolan (toe) both recovered in time to start against Aston Villa). No new injuries picked up.

Current injuries: Jack Collison (knee).

Wigan

James McArthur recovered from his back injury in time to take up a starting position against Chelsea. Wigan received no new injuries.

Current injuries: None.
