Liverpool relieved as Agger’s injury is just bruising

Liverpool have been given a huge boost with the news that Daniel Agger’s injury, which he sustained at the hands of teammate Glenn Johnson in the Barclay’s Premier League match against Manchester United at the weekend, has been shown to just be severe bruising rather than ligament damage as had been initially feared.

Reports yesterday had stated that Liverpool feared that Agger could miss the rest of the season, however scans have shown that their concerns were misplaced and Agger’s injury lay-off is likely to be for a considerably shorter time. The club are even hopeful that the player could return for their match against Stoke City which takes place on Sunday week.

Yesterday, Agger’s agent, Per Steffensen, said:

“It is very good news. Daniel hasn’t torn any ligaments. He has got a bruise on a bone behind his knee so right now it is very sore and a bit swollen but, as soon as that goes down, he can come back to training.”

The news will be welcomed by Liverpool, who have lost Martin Kelly until the new year at the earliest with a knee injury, also sustained in the same match.
