Sammy Ameobi to return in reserve game for Newcastle

Newcastle United have been given a welcome injury boost with the news that Sammy Ameobi will return from his hamstring injury to take part in Newcastle’s reserve team match against Southampton tonight [Friday].

Ameobi suffered a ‘’tweak’ in his hamstring during training after what had been a promising pre-season for the youngster and has yet to take any part in Newcastle’s Barclay’s Premier League campaign so far this season.  According to the Newcastle official site, Ameobi will start for the reserves tonight as they take on the Saints in Benton.

Hamstrings are the tendons which attach the hamstring muscles of the thigh to the thigh bone and are the cause of one of the most common injuries in football.  The purpose of hamstrings is to bend the knee as well as straighten or extend the hip and the hamstring muscles one of the most important muscles in the body when it comes to running and jumping.

The majority of hamstring injuries heal without the need for surgery and the general goal of treatment is to ensure that they heal without any scaring being caused.  Treatment generally consists of rest, compression, ice.
