Despite leaving the Etihad Stadium on crutches after Manchester City’s draw in the Champions League with Real Madrid, Roberto Mancini has confirmed that his captain could play against Chelsea on Sunday with the player set for a late fitness test.
Kompany, who injured his knee, will be assessed today [Saturday] and a decision will be then made as to whether he is fit to play.
“I hope Vinnie can recover but we won’t know until tomorrow [Saturday]. He is strong so there is a chance, but we will make a final decision on Saturday. Mario trained on Thursday so should be OK but Gael is still injured.”
Gael Clichy is currently suffering from and ankle injury that the defender picked up as Manchester City defeated Aston Villa in the last round of Barclay’s Premier League matches when he had to be replaced with 73 minutes on the clock.
Balotelli had been suffering from a back injury but is expected to be fit enough to be included in the squad.by
