In what is one of the most truly inspiring footballing stories of recent times, Barcelona’s Eric Abidal will receive the medical all-clear and be allowed to resume first-team action with the Spanish side next month.
Abidal, who returned to training last month after a liver transplant, last played for Barca in February 2011.
Now, speaking to Cadena SER, his doctor, Juan Carlos Garcia Valdecasas has said
Abidal will receive the medial all-clear in the first half of February and will be a Barcelona player again.
Eric is keen to play games again and it now all depends on Barcelona’s selection criteria rather than on his medical condition.
His attitude has played a big role in his recovery. He really has an extraordinary and very positive attitude.
The player was first diagnosed with a tumour on his liver in March 2011 which required surgery. Exactly one year after the tumour was announced it was revealed that Abidal would need a liver transplant due to the fact that the first operation had not resolved the issue.
His cousin Gerard provided the donor tissue and on April 2012 Abidal underwent the transplant.
He was given the all-clear to resume training on 18th December 2012.by
