Perch hoping to give Newcastle injury boost

As Newcastle overtook Arsenal on top of the Injury League for the first time this season due to their ongoing injury crisis, James Perch is hoping to give manager Alan Pardew a timely boost by declaring himself fit for this weekend’s game against Norwich City at St James’ Park.

Perch injured his knee in Newcastle’s FA Cup game against Brighton at the weekend and it was initially feared that he could face a spell on the sidelines.

About the injury, Pardew said

“The good news is that James Perch could be available for Saturday – it’s not a longer-term injury.

“Hopefully we’ll have Jonas, Fabricio and Papiss back in training.

“We’ll have stronger players back for Norwich. We need better players on the pitch. We need the best possible team we can get.

“The real issue is that we need our best players on the pitch.

“That’s what we’re working on.

“Yohan trained on Tuesday, but I’m not sure if he’ll be involved.

“There’s a determination to get our best players out there. But we can’t rush them and bring them back before they’re ready.

“We could be looking at Reading in terms of Steven Taylor.

“Mathieu Debuchy’s also been training, so things are looking a little bit healthier.”
