Abou Diaby, not long returned from a three month lay-off, was substituted yesterday during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

After the game manager Arsene Wenger commented that the player had picked up a calf problem, saying

He told me he got kicked on the hip after he felt his calf. I don’t know how bad it is.

Diaby himself was optimistic that it wasn’t serious as he tweeted

Diaby has suffered an extensive list of injuries since his ankle was shattered by a tackle from Dan Smith only a few months after the highly-talented midfielder signed for Arsenal. Struggling to maintain his fitness levels for any length of time, Diaby has consulted specialists and spent his summer trying to find a way to put his injury problems behind him.
