Wilshere set for ankle operation

Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Jack Wilshere will undergo an ankle operation when the season ends which will see him miss England’s matches against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil in the summer.

Wilshere, who missed 14 months with stress fracture in the same ankle, will undergo the operation in order to have a pin removed.

Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s game against Wigan at the Emirates, manager Arsene Wenger said

“Jack will have a small mild surgery after the season. At the moment Jack plays with painkillers and I use him only when it is really needed.

“It is a very small, small, small one [operation], taking out a pin. It is a two to three weeks job. It will not be a problem.”

Wilshere is expected to be fit in time to take part in Arsenal’s pre-seson and the issue Wiis not expected to cause any long-term problems.
