Tottenham’s Gareth Bale is set to miss Wale’s friendly on Wednesday with a foot injury despite training with the national team.
Wales will face the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday however Bale was assessed by the national team’s medical staff and will not play. He will, however, remain with the national team as he recovers from the injury.
Training on his own on Monday alongside the Wales physio Sean Connelly, Bale was spotted undertaking sprinting drills.
After Spurs friendly on Saturday, Tottenham manager Andres Villas-Boas suggested that the pain in his foot was still ‘disturbing’ Bale who has not played for the club in over three weeks.
Bale is also expected to miss Spurs opening game of the new Premier League season with the injury. Spurs play Premier League new boys Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Speaking about Bale, Wales assistant manager Kit Symons said
“We’re pleased he wanted to be here.
“He’s too early in his recovery to be considered for the game but he was keen to be here and he will stay with the squad.
“We’re pleased Tottenham were happy for him to be here and that shows the good relationship we have with the club and that they are confident he’ll be looked after properly.”
Wales will also be without Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey who has an ankle injury and West Ham’s James Collins who also withdrew from the squad.by
