Updates – Vermaelen, Johnson, Kompany, Rooney

Arsenal’s captain Thomas Vermaelen is set for a return to training after recovering from the back injury which has ruled him out for the whole season so far for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Reports on Belgian sites claim that Vermaelen is set to return to training on Monday however it is not clear if they mean Monday just past or next Monday. Arsene Wenger  currently only has two fit centre backs and had to use Bacary Sagna in that position when Laurent Koscielny was suspended.

The Daily Star are reporting that Liverpool could be without full-back Glen Johnson for up to ten weeks after the defender suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United at Anfield.

However, Liverpool have admitted that the scan which would determine the length of time that Johnson would be out for has been delayed due to severe swelling meaning that any estimates given at this point are merely guesses.

Daniel Sturridge is also listed as injured with a thigh injury.

Manchester City

Reports on Belgian websites claim that Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany should return to training on Wednesday. Kompany had been ruled out of action until November for Pellegrini’s side with a groin injury so any return before then would be a boost for Manchester City.

Manchester United

Wayne Rooney posted a picture of his head wound while on holiday in the Algarve. The Old Trafford forward, who received the injury in training courtesy of Phil Jones, seems to be healing up nicely.
