Injury updates – Liverpool, Monaco

Daniel Sturridge is set to start for Liverpool tonight despite missing England’s two qualifying matches with a thigh strain. The forward is said to have recovered enough to take part in their Premier League game at Swansea this evening where just a point will see them regain top spot in the league.

Liverpool will still be without Glen Johnson who is likely to be missing for at least another four weeks.

Eric Abidal has revealed that he was offered the liver of a teammate before he was given part of his cousin’s liver in a transplant earlier this year.

His Barcelona teammate Dani Alvers offered to donate part of his liver however it was deemed that this could have too much of an affect on Alves playing career so another option was sought.

As Abidal left Barcelona after the Spanish side decided not to renew his contract, Alves adopted his former teammates shirt number in order to pay his respects to him.

Abidal said

“My relationship with Dani goes much further than him taking my old No.22 shirt.

“When I had to undergo surgery, he offered to donate his liver.

“Of course, it’s completely out of the question because he is a professional footballer.

“Our relationship goes much deeper than friendship.”
