Injury updates Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, West Ham

Arsenal were giving a welcome boost with news that Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Bacary Sagna are all fit for their game against Norwich. Sagna will have a fitness test later today [Friday] to determine if he is ready to play while Santi Cazorla is said to be fit but not match fit after a month on the sidelines.

Liverpool forward Iago Aspas has been ruled out of the game against Newcastle after he limped out of training yesterday.

Newcastle’s Steven Taylor has been ruled out of their game tomorrow against Liverpool. He could return for their game against Sunderland next week.

West Ham

Both James Collins and Carlton Cole have been ruled out of West Ham’s game against Manchester City. Collins was injured in Wales’ game against Belgium during the international break while Carlton Cole is still not ready to join the squad.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said

“James Collins pulled a hamstring playing for Wales which is a blow for us.

“We are waiting for Winston Reid to come back from a long journey, but we believe he is okay, but there will be some fatigue.

“He [Carlton Cole] has no chance of playing on Saturday because he has played just one game last week behind closed doors.

“He has been through his pre-season work and he played longer in his one game than he would normally have played. The rest played 45 minutes in their first game against Cork City, he played most of the game against Charlton.

“He has worked very, very hard to get where he is and he hasn’t picked up any injuries, which is very important, so we look forward to getting his match fitness up and getting him in the squad as quickly as possible.”
