Laurent Koscileny will miss out on France’s game against Australia tonight after picking up a calf injury in training. The injury is not thought to be serious and the defender has remained with the national team.

Liverpool’s Joe Allen hopes to be back for Liverpool’s game against Newcastle, saying

I’m almost there. The plan is to get back in to training before the Newcastle game. Hopefully I’ll be available for selection.

Manchester United

Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand is undergoing intensive treatment on a groin injury in a bid to be fit for his side’s game against Southampton at Old Trafford after the international break.

Robin van Persie has allayed fears that he is suffering from a broken toe but is still expected to miss out on the Netherland’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary tonight [Friday].

Van Persie told the press

‘I got an enormous stamp on my toe [against Shakhtar] and I really thought it had been broken, but luckily a scan showed it was not.

‘I played on Saturday [in the 2-1 win at Sunderland] but the injury has not got better.’

West Brom

West Brom’s Ben Foster has been speaking about his recovery after the operation on his fractured foot. The goalkeeper said

It was always going to take 12 weeks [to recover]/ IT’s going well and it’s six weeks since I had the operation. I’ve just started to put weight on it.
