Vidic ready to play but not guaranteed a place

Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that defender Nemanja Vidic is ready to return to action but that he is not guaranteed to walk back in to the starting line up.

Vidic has missed Manchester United’s last two games, against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and the trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League, after picking up what was described as a ‘minor injury’ when the Old Trafford side faced Newcastle.

Phil Jones and Jonny Evans handled Aston Villa well and Moyes has stated

“Nemanja is just about ready to play now,” said Moyes.

“But we have five centre-halves. We can use Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand and him.

“There is competition for places there and you are going to have to play well to stay in the team.”

Vidic arrived at Manchester United eight years ago but has struggled with injury since he ruptured his cruciate ligaments against Basle in the Champions League two years ago.

With the hectic Christmas period about to get underway, however, there is no doubt that David Moyes will be looking to rotate his squad and having Vidic back will be a boost.
