Manchester United – Moyes gives Wayne Rooney injury update

Wayne Rooney is set to miss Manchester United’s game against Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League and is also a doubt for their return leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The official Manchester United Twitter account tweeted to say that David Moyes told MUTV

He’s got a badly bruised toe. He’s got a terrible toe. Not only is it a problem for this game, it could be a problem for the Munich match.

We need to monitor it. We’ll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up.

The news will come as a massive blow for Moyes’ side who are already without Robin van Persie with a knee injury which still has no return date while Juan Mata who will be ineligible for the Champions League game.

Manchester United also have doubts for the weekend over Ryan Giggs with a groin injury, Alex Buttner with a hamstring problem and Antonio Valencia with a knee injury.

It wasn’t all bad news, however, as they are expected to welcome back Chris Smalling and Rafael in to the side
