Atlético Madrid may have won to keep their La Liga dreams alive on Wednesday night but Diego Godin’s injury threatens to spoil the party.
The Uruguayan defender suffered a muscle issue just 10 minutes into the 1-0 defeat of Athletic Club and is a huge doubt for the Champions League first leg against Bayern Munich, which takes place on Wednesday.
It’s incredibly rare to see a player recover from a muscle injury within just a week and Atlético, who have already been without José Gimenez since the beginning of the month, are now in trouble.

Fernando Torres scored the only goal in Bilbao to keep Atlético close to Barcelona, but the win could prove to be a costly one.
Bayern, meanwhile, won their cup semi-final in midweek with no issues and have seen Jerome Boateng return to training this week. There is a quiet hope that the German could be fit to face Atlético in the second leg at the very least.
There was no comment from Diego Simeone on Wednesday but he will be worried about facing one of the most dangerous attacks in the world without a key centre-back.
Godin was man of the match in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona and has missed just three games through injury all season. However, the defender was out for two weeks with a hamstring issue. A recurrence of that was the last thing Atlético needed.by
