Cesc Fabregas has surprised Arsenal fans by admitting that he doesn’t want Tottenham to win the Premier League this season.
The former Gunner, who signed for Chelsea from his boyhood club, Barcelona, in 2014, has become one of the Gooners’ biggest enemies. Signing for rivals is just not the done thing but is becoming increasingly common in modern football where money seems to talk louder than loyalty.
However, the playmaker was open about his disdain for Arsenal’s closest rivals, Spurs, during Monday Night Football, saying, “Well, hopefully not I don’t want Spurs to win it to be honest! For what they’ve done through the season I’d love Leicester to win the Premier League.”
The comments prompted a mixture of confusion and indignance on Twitter as many still find it hard to come to terms with the midfielder’s move to south London. Some stated that they believe he’s still a Gunner, despite the blue shirt he dons every weekend; while some allowed the comments to run off them like water off a duck’s back.
Fabregas was reportedly offered to Arsenal before he joined Chelsea but Arsene Wenger, having bought Mesut Ozil for £42.5m the season before, is said to have turned him down. Although the Spaniard hasn’t managed to repeat the success as his first season at Chelsea, some Arsenal fans remain confused by the decision to not sign him again.by
