Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho faces a two-year ban after traces of a fat burning substance were allegedly found in his drugs test after the Reds’ Europa League match against Borussia Dortmund.
If Jurgen Klopp does know more about what’s going on behind the scenes, he didn’t let on in his press conference at the weekend and admitted as soon as he knows what’s happening, so will everyone else.
The centre-back could face two years out if his second sample, due to come back on Tuesday, comes back positive. However, since a club have to have two or more players found guilty of doping, they won’t face any repercussions.
At this point in time, Liverpool have issued a statement saying:
“Yesterday, Friday 22nd April 2016, a formal communication was received from UEFA stating that they are investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho.
“The player will respond to UEFA on the matter.
“The player is currently not subject to any playing suspension. However, the club, in consultation with the player, has decided that while this process is followed the player will not be available for selection for matches.
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
