Manchester City suffered a huge blow under 10 minutes into their Champions League semi-final as Vincent Kompany pulled up with a muscle problem.
The Man City captain has struggled with injuries all season and missed City’s last two Premier League matches in a bid to ensure he stays fit for the Champions League.
Well, that plan has now backfired.
Man City are already without David Silva and Pablo Zabaleta at the Bernabéu and Kompany’s absence won’t make the rest of the match, or the season, any easier.
When Wednesday’s game is over, the Citizens will be looking to their two final Premier League matches as they try to fend off city rivals Manchester United and confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.
Louis van Gaal’s men are currently four points behind but have a game in hand on their neighbours.
With Arsenal coming up at the weekend and a tricky last league fixture against Swansea a week later, City will be desperate to have Kompany fit again by then.
If not he would, should they make it, likely be rushed back for the Champions League final at the end of the month before trying to stay fit during the European Championships with Belgium.by
