Matt Smith, a player you might know better as ‘that blonde lad on the bench’ from Arsenal’s last three FA Cup games (and three Premier League games), has reportedly signed for Swindon Town on loan for the season

Arsenal confirmed the deal on Monday.

Smith made 14 appearances for the Arsenal u23s before their season came to a halt.

He then made regular appearances in Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad, featuring on the bench and picking up an FA Cup winner’s medal despite not playing a single second.

Swindon achieved promotion this campaign, from League Two to League One and Arsenal have the beginnings of a relationship with Swindon, loaning them Daniel Ballard last season.

That one didn’t quite work out as a serious injury forced Ballard back to North London early.

But that hasn’t put the side off pushing for another loan move.
