Arsenal have convinced Willian to reject all offers thrown at him and signed the Brazilian forward on a three-year deal.

Does Mikel Arteta really want him? Is he only joining because of Kia Joorabchian? These are questions we may never know the answer too, but what we do know is that the 32-year-old is now an Arsenal player, joining David Luiz and Eddie Nketiah as former Chelsea players at the club.

With Arsenal planning on using a lot of young players, Arteta is keen to get experience around them. That was a large part of the reason they gave David Luiz a new deal ahead of Willliam Saliba’s arrival.

Willian arrives needing no time to bed in and will serve as an excellent mentor for Bukayo Saka and others and while there are many who doubt this move will be good for the club, there is a reason Chelsea wanted to keep hold of him and Barcelona were sniffing around as well.

A three-year deal was the main sticking point at Chelsea, who have a far stricter over-30s policy than Arsenal, not that you’ll read about that. They offered him a two-year deal before the lockdown and refused to move their position, something that Willian found offensive.

Arsenal offered Willian slightly lower wages but the security he wanted with a three-year deal.
