Arsenal had to deal with a few injury problems on Tuesday night, as they overcame Southampton 3-1.

Firstly, Kieran Tierney was absent from the squad completely. He’d been listed by the club as a doubt ahead of the game, and clearly wasn’t ready in the end. Mikel Arteta stay tight-lipped on whether the left-back could feature against Manchester United.

“I don’t know,” Arteta said. “He wasn’t available against Southampton in the FA Cup, he was injured. He’s still injured today. Let’s see how he progresses for the game against Man United.”

Sam Dean reports that the injury is nothing serious, however, and the player should be back for the weekend.

Emile Smith Rowe started the match, but he had to come off early. Arteta says the midfielder was injured, rather than rested, against Southampton at the weekend. As a result, it was no real surprise to see him replaced with 20 minutes to go on Tuesday.

“He was injured for the game in the FA Cup so he wasn’t available,” Arteta confirmed. “We knew that he probably could not play the whole game today. He has some muscular discomfort so he had to come off again.”

Finally, on Thomas Partey, Arteta claimed the midfielder was “feeling some discomfort”. He added, “hopefully it’s nothing, but he was struggling.”

The good news on that front is TheAFCBell report that Partey isn’t suffering much discomfort after the match. He’ll have further checks, of course, but he ‘should be fine’.

To sum up, it sounds like all three players are battling knocks at the moment, but there’s a chance that any or all of them could still feature at the weekend. We should know more in the coming days.
